The 7 most common symptoms of burnout
08.12.2016
Nowadays, many people have moments of weakness, doubt and a sense of resignation. We live in a time of pursuit of happiness, money and career. We forget about ourselves, private life, health, in favor of work and professional fulfillment. The feeling of fatigue and burnout can sometimes bother us and it is a natural process - it is an unconditional reflex associated with, for example, fatigue. What if this process is continuous and unceasing, and we do not have the strength and motivation to work? Perhaps we are professionally burnt out and it is time to take some steps and make changes in our lives.
Below I have described the 7 most common symptoms of professional burnout. If you notice any of them by analyzing yourself - start acting.
1. Feeling exhausted all the time
If you come home from work every day and you don't have the strength to do anything but lie down or sleep, it's not a good sign. Activities such as the gym, spending time actively with the family or even cooking should not be a problem even after a hard day. Work in which you feel fulfilled does not tire you enough to deprive you of energy for life.
2. Disregarding colleagues and customers
If your co-workers annoy you and your clients give you headaches and red skin, then you should stop wasting your time and others' time. Your co-workers, just like clients, want to be treated in the best possible way, and your constant, bad mood reflects on everyone, and especially on your health.
3. Friday liberation feeling
If you are one of those people for whom waiting for the end of the week and shouting in the form of a post on FB saying "Friday Friday!" is something like waiting for salvation, it means that you do not take your profession seriously and you are not fully absorbed in what you do. Life is too short to follow orders - look for a job where you will have more satisfaction from the action and more responsibility. It will make you feel important and appreciated.
4. "I hate Mondays"
If you subscribe to this statement, and getting out of bed on Monday morning brings you thoughts "only 5 more days until Friday" is an undoubted reason to consider whether you are heading in the right direction. Monday is the day when you come to work rested and full of energy after the weekend (of course, if you found time to regenerate during the weekend). On this day, you should “Eat That Frog” (the slogan taken from the title of Brian Tracy's book) and start the week fully ready for action. The first 3 days of the week are crucial for our efficiency - after that our productivity drops significantly.
5. Fear of the new and unknown
If you get shivers at the thought of changing your job and are afraid that by resigning from your current job you will not be able to cope with another, it means that you are intimidated and afraid of challenges. Remember that even if you are not a specialist in a given industry, and your work can be done equally well by someone else with much worse competences than yours, it does not mean that you have been deprived of the chance to find something better. Fear of change is a common cause of burnout.
6. Feeling bored
If you follow the boss's orders by force, you feel that your work does not make sense because it is a self-repetitive routine and you are not able to do such work with full concentration and dedication - it means that this is not the job for you. It's time to look for a more lucrative job.
7. Lack of approval from colleagues
If you see bad signals coming to you from the environment of your closest associates, you feel their hatred or even hostility on your skin, it means that others do not treat you as they used to and it's time to look for the reasons for this situation, starting with yourself. Are you sure you treat everyone the way you would like to be treated? You spend an average of 1/3 of your life at work. Your co-workers are people who often see you more often than your immediate family. If you are unable to live and cooperate with them in full symbiosis - look for a new job.
