What job offers do candidates choose? What should an employer pay attention to when constructing an job offer?

One of the key problems of employers is the proper presentation of the job offer to potential candidates. It is not difficult to notice that less effort should be made if our "target" is young people, often without experience or with a few projects under their belt. You don't have to ask such people too much to take a job in your company. But what if we want to focus on seniors and people with extensive experience? We have to promote our offer in a completely different way and create something more competitive.

Flexible approach

A very important factor is the environment in which the candidate will work. Is the employer problematic? Does it create barriers to development, does it listen to its employees? Of course, I don't mean changing the technology stack every 3 weeks because everyone wants to work with a different technology, only more mundane issues like leaving work early, doing some homework or a special month remotely in the Caribbean - why not? Recommendations of other employees, which will appear along with the job offer, can help in this type of activity. It's nice if, for example, on Linkedin, under the company's posts promoting a new position, real people, employees of the company, will comment in the comments. All this will make the company more credible, and employees will confirm that the employer pays attention to the needs of colleagues.

Remote work

Does the company allow remote work in any form? Often, processes in companies are built so unfriendly, without a deeper analysis of needs, that remote work is not possible, even to the smallest extent. This is wrong thinking. Each of us has an innate need to feel important and recognized. In addition, nothing motivates us as people like responsibility - we have been taking responsibility for our own offspring for hundreds of thousands of years. This responsibility makes us more efficient and effective. Candidates who are looking for new challenges want to work in a place that keeps up with the times. If the employer explains "lack of control over employees" if you want to work remotely, it's time to look for a more friendly environment for development. I recommend the book “Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navy SEALs Lead and Win” by Jocko Willink and Leif Babin, this is undoubtedly one of the most important readings on management. Every leader should read it.

Working hours

One of the most important elements is also flexible working hours, the ability to choose the start or end of work. Not everyone likes to start the working day at 9:00. Many people prefer to get up early and finish work when others still have a few hours to work out. The same applies to the so-called Nocne Marków, where work starts only around noon. Of course, while maintaining such flexibility, issues of work organization are important, e.g. daily stand-ups, which are usually at a specific time, fixed for the entire team. Then such an hour should be well-chosen so that everyone can make it without unnecessary "slips". Flexible working hours are important for candidates because each of us has our own obligations - family, passions, hobbies, goals. The role of the employer is to create such working conditions that everyone (or at least most) feel good and can use their free time in the hours that suit them best.

Choosing the form of employment

Another important factor for candidates is the choice of the form of employment. We are dealing with an increasingly aware society, not everyone wants to pay such high taxes, e.g. with an employment contract if we compare it with a cooperation contract (contract, so-called B2B). We know very well that the pension system in Poland is not without flaws, and any claims for work and collection of contributions in the future are simply very uncertain. In such a situation, the ideal solution will be to give candidates a choice - let them decide which form of employment will be the most suitable for them.

Summary: of course, there are many more important elements determining the choice of the ideal workplace by the candidate than the flexible approach of the employer, the possibility of remote work or the choice of working hours or the choice of the form of employment. In this article, I have tried to highlight the most important issues that the employer usually has an influence on (as opposed to issues such as the amount of remuneration or the location of the office, which are often too firmly established to be subject to change). The most important common element of the above set of information is flexibility, which, despite the times in which we live, so many employers lack, and yet it is thanks to it that we often acquire ideal candidates.

Happy hunting :)
